Visiting Italy
The Italian expression „bel paese” means nice or beautiful country. I think it is an excellent description of Italy. It has been a dream of mine for several years to visit this country. Because I think Italian is a beautiful language and I also learn it as a hobby. Because I’ve heard that it’s a beautiful country and a very nice culture. And because I love the Italian cuisine even though I’m gluten-free. But believe it or not, it wasn’t a problem during my visit. I ate a lot of delicious meals without gluten.

So finally, this year in October I went on this trip to Italy. I’m very lucky, because I’m currently only teaching online, which allows me to work and travel. I spent almost three weeks in Italy, during the week I was working and explored the neighborhood of my Airbnb. When I had more free time and of course at the weekends I did sightseeing non-stop.
My first destination was Milan, I flew there from Budapest. After one week in this Northern metropole city, I traveled by train to Parma, and from there went on daytrips to Florence and Bologna. Finally, I spent one more week in the capital city, Rome. I’m going to write separate blog entries about all these destinations, because they are all very famous, rich in culture and programs, and because I had so much experience in each and every place.

Before I started this journey, my mom had told me that I’ll be in such beautiful places as never before. And she was right… I have never seen so much beauty as in Italy, where arts are very rich and popular, and where landscapes and cities are so spectacular. Sometimes I couldn’t believe my eyes that it’s all real what I’m seeing.

Culturally it was very interesting to explore the Mediterranean world a little bit, to see the cultural differences between Milan and Rome, the two big cities. Of course, I also had to compare it to my own Hungarian culture, but even to the German one, as I had spent more than a year in Berlin. Taking this perspective, arriving to Milan, the capital city of fashion, was a rea cultural shock, but rather in a positive way…
